Anthropic started showing rupee prices for Claude in India in July 2026, and since then one question keeps coming up: is Claude Max worth ₹11,999 or ₹23,999 a month, or is Claude Pro enough? This guide answers the Claude Max price in India question with numbers from Anthropic’s own pricing page and from Indian news reports, explains what “5x” and “20x” usage actually means, and shows who should pay for Max and who should not.
Everything here was checked on 25 October 2026. Anthropic can change prices and limits at any time, so always confirm on claude.com/pricing before you pay.
Quick answer: Claude Max price in India
- Claude Max 5x: ₹11,999 per month (GST included), $100 per month on Anthropic’s pricing page.
- Claude Max 20x: ₹23,999 per month (GST included), $200 per month.
- Claude Pro: ₹2,399 per month on monthly billing, or ₹2,000 per month on annual billing (₹24,000 up front). In dollars: $20 a month, or $17 a month with the $200 annual plan.
- Billing: Max is monthly only; Pro is monthly or annual.
- Payment: card or app store billing. No UPI directly from Anthropic as of 25 Oct 2026.
The rupee figures come from The Hindu BusinessLine, Moneycontrol, NDTV Profit and Times Now, which all reported the same prices when India pricing launched. The dollar figures and plan details come from Anthropic’s official page, claude.com/pricing.
Claude Pro vs Claude Max price in India (table)
| Plan | India price (GST incl.) | US list price | Billing | Usage vs Pro |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Free | ₹0 | $0 | – | Pro gives at least 5x Free |
| Pro (annual) | ₹2,000/mo (₹24,000/yr) | $17/mo ($200/yr) | Annual | 1x |
| Pro (monthly) | ₹2,399/mo | $20/mo | Monthly | 1x |
| Max 5x | ₹11,999/mo | $100/mo | Monthly only | 5x per 5-hour session |
| Max 20x | ₹23,999/mo | $200/mo | Monthly only | 20x per 5-hour session |

Two things stand out. First, Max 5x costs exactly five times the monthly Pro price in dollars ($100 vs $20), so you are paying for usage, not for a different product. Second, Max 20x costs only twice Max 5x but gives four times the usage, so if you are already on Max 5x and still hitting limits, 20x is the better value per message.
Dollar price vs rupee price: why ₹11,999 and not ₹8,400?
At roughly ₹84 to the dollar, $100 is about ₹8,400. The India price of ₹11,999 is higher for two reasons. The rupee price includes 18% GST, while Anthropic’s page says plainly that “prices shown don’t include applicable tax”. And The Hindu BusinessLine noted that India prices sit at a small premium, most likely to cover currency conversion on Anthropic’s side.
Before July 2026, Indian users paid in dollars and their bank added GST plus a foreign transaction fee of around 2–3.5% on most cards. Paying in rupees removes the forex fee, so for many people the real bill is close to what they paid before, just more predictable. Moneycontrol reported that the rupee pricing covers Pro, Max and Team, and that India is Claude’s largest market outside the United States.
App-store prices can differ from the web price. Anthropic’s help pages say mobile pricing may vary by app platform, so if you subscribe from an iPhone or Android phone, check the price shown in the store before you confirm.
What 5x and 20x usage really means
This is where most people get confused. “5x” and “20x” are not message counts. Anthropic’s pricing FAQ says: “Pro gives you at least 5x more usage per 5-hour session than Free. Max gives you 5x or 20x more usage per 5-hour session than Pro.” How much that is depends on the length of your chats, the model you choose and the features you use.
So a long Opus conversation with big file uploads uses your allowance much faster than short Sonnet questions. Max 5x simply gives you five times Pro’s budget in the same window, and Max 20x gives you twenty times. Anthropic also lists these extras for Max on claude.com/pricing (read 25 Oct 2026):
- Higher output limits for all tasks.
- Early access to advanced Claude features.
- Priority access at high-traffic times.
- $100 a month (Max 5x) or $200 a month (Max 20x) in API credits to build on the Claude Platform.
- Access to the newest premium model, Fable, at up to 50% of weekly limits; on Pro it runs on usage credits.
5-hour windows and weekly limits, explained simply

According to Anthropic’s pricing FAQ, every plan has usage limits that reset on a rolling five-hour session window, and paid plans add weekly limits on top. In practice:
- Your first message starts a five-hour window. Everything you do in that window draws from one budget.
- When the budget runs out, you wait until the window resets, upgrade, or turn on usage credits (paid plans) and pay at standard API rates.
- Separately, a weekly cap stops a single person from using the top plan non-stop all week.
- Claude on the web, the desktop app, mobile and Claude Code share the same pool. Heavy coding in the terminal eats into your chat allowance.
Anthropic also says it may limit usage in other ways, such as weekly and monthly caps or model and feature limits, to keep access fair. You can check where you stand at any time in Settings > Usage.
Claude Pro vs Max: features side by side
Feature-wise, Max is “everything in Pro, plus”. Both plans include Claude Code, Claude in Chrome, Claude for Microsoft 365 and Outlook, Research, Projects, Opus, Sonnet and Haiku, memory, connectors and up to 1M-token context (varies by model). What Max adds is volume and priority:
| Feature | Pro | Max 5x | Max 20x |
|---|---|---|---|
| Claude Code | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| Opus, Sonnet, Haiku | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| Usage per 5-hour session | Baseline | 5x Pro | 20x Pro |
| Priority at busy times | No | Yes | Yes |
| Monthly API credits | No | $100 | $200 |
| Billing cycle | Monthly or annual | Monthly | Monthly |
| Payment | Credit card | Credit card | Credit card |

Who needs Claude Max (and who doesn’t)?
Max makes sense if you…
- Hit Pro’s five-hour limit most working days and lose time waiting.
- Use Claude Code for hours at a time, or run long agent tasks.
- Work with very large documents or codebases in Opus every day.
- Bill clients for your time, so ₹11,999 a month is cheaper than an hour of waiting each day.
- Would use the $100–$200 monthly API credits anyway.
Pro is enough if you…
- Are a student using Claude for assignments, notes and exam prep.
- Write blogs, emails or social posts a few times a day.
- Code occasionally, or mostly use Sonnet.
- Rarely see the “usage limit reached” message.
A simple test: use Pro for two weeks. If you hit the limit on fewer than three days a week, stay on Pro. If you hit it daily and it costs you real work, try Max 5x for one month, since Max is monthly and you can downgrade at the end of the billing period.
Can you pay for Claude with UPI in India?
Not directly. Anthropic’s pricing page lists credit card as the payment method for Pro, Max 5x and Max 20x. Moneycontrol and NDTV Profit both reported that UPI is not yet supported for Claude subscriptions, and The Hindu BusinessLine noted that, unlike OpenAI, Anthropic accepts only credit or debit cards and Play Store / App Store billing.
So your options in India are an international-enabled card on the web, or paying through Google Play or the App Store, where you may be able to use the store’s own payment options. If you have no card, this is the main reason people look at shared access.
What Claude costs over a year in rupees
- Pro, annual: ₹24,000 per year.
- Pro, monthly × 12: ₹28,788 per year.
- Max 5x × 12: ₹1,43,988 per year.
- Max 20x × 12: ₹2,87,988 per year.
Max has no annual discount, so a full year of Max 20x costs nearly ₹2.9 lakh. That is a business tool budget, not a personal one, which is why most individuals in India stay on Pro.
Cheaper ways to use Claude Pro in India
If Max is overkill and even ₹2,399 a month is too much, there are three honest options:
- Stay on Free for light use. It includes web search, file creation, Artifacts and memory.
- Pay for Pro annually at ₹2,000 a month (₹24,000 up front) if you have a card.
- Shared Pro access. DesiBundle sells shared Claude Pro access paid in rupees by UPI: Claude GroupBuy (shared Pro) – ₹799 for 6 months / ₹1,299 for 12 months, or Claude AI Premium Account (shared Pro) – ₹799 for 6 months / ₹1,299 for 12 months. This is shared access to Pro, not your own Anthropic account, and DesiBundle is not affiliated with Anthropic. DesiBundle does not sell Claude Max. Read is a cheap Claude subscription safe? before buying any shared plan.
Shared access suits students and light users who want Pro models without a card. If you need private chats, your own account or Max-level limits, buy directly from Anthropic.

A note on “Claude Pro Max” listings
Some group-buy sites use the name “Claude Pro Max”. For example, on 25 Oct 2026 ToolzBuy’s page listed a “Claude Pro Max Group Buy” at ₹2,999 a month, described as “3x usage limits” against an official cost of “$60/mo”. For comparison, Anthropic’s claude.com/pricing page, read the same day, lists Pro at $20 a month and Max at $100 (5x) or $200 (20x) a month, with no plan named “Pro Max” and no $60 tier. If you are buying any shared plan, ask the seller exactly which official plan it is, and compare with the table above.
